Hi, we are Freddy and Nonna, as hosts of what is affectionately known locally as Freddy’s place, we offer you an outstanding location within 200 metres from Coconut Beach and Coconut Point, Gurubebila. Coconut Point has the best ocean pool on the south west coast, It has world renowned surfing locations, such as Plantations and Coconut Point and one of the most iconic and photographed sunsets in Sri Lanka.

From your accommodation you walk just 200 metres to the ocean pool and a number of beach shack bars where you can enjoy a coconut or beer every evening and join up to 200 other sunset lovers to while away the last moments of the day .

200 Metres from surf for beginners to intermediate level surfers

As you sit and relax enjoy the beauty of Coconut Beach and Coconut Point you will see the local population of green turtles just meters from the sand and during egg laying season you may witness either the birthing mothers coming up the beach between Coconut Point and Plantations Beach or if your timing is perfect the babies making the dash into the surf to commence their ocean lives. (Turtle nesting season is between November to May and peak hatching season is February to April)

All rooms at Freddys Place have air conditioning and Wi-Fi. The open area Ground floor is a shared area as is the front and rear gardens. Feel free to use the outdoor showers at front and back to wash off after a surf or a visit to the beach and boards can be stored at the rear of the building outside in the rack provided or inside in the rack adjacent to the stairs.

For those that have rented scooters and tuk-tuks for their stay, they can be parked outside along the front fence as far off the street as possible or just inside the gate to the right away from the main door entrance. For those looking for transport on a day to day basis there are Tuk-Tuks located at the end of the street near Coconut Surf Inn main entrance and public transport buses are available at the end of the street on the Colombo Matara Road that can take you to Matara and Colombo (I know what a shock) but also can take you to the magnificent towns of Weligama to the south and the fort city of Galle to the north.

The ground floor has a kitchen and laundry. There is an outdoor clothes line available post washing or your surfing attire and beach towels or you can hang your washing to dry on any of the available balconies that each room has. The ground floor dining table and lounging area is for daytime and night time use on a first in first served basis and activities in the open area are to completed by 10pm so other guests are not interrupted from there sleep unless otherwise agreed.

Fridge, washing machine, kettle, plates, cutlery,d ish washing liquid and clothes washing powder is provided. All dishes are to be cleaned immediately after use as we are a tropical location and every ant and bug can smell scraps from miles away. Garbage bins and bin liners are provided in the shared area kitchen and liners are to be tied and left at the front gate.

Food scraps can also be offered to the local cows and chickens that may or may not become your friends during your stay.

We highly recommend both businesses either side of Freddy’s Place with Kumaris restaurant right next door where breakfast is available from 7am and coffee and Sri Lanka tea are a specialty. Traditional Sri Lankan breakfast dishes including coconut pancakes, egg hoppers, coconut roti, curry in all its forms and tropical fruit plates are all made to order every morning 7 days a week.

Evening dishes include rice and curry varieties, local fresh fish dishes and more.

On the other side of Freddys Place is our local Ayurvedic Massage centre and one door up further is Jamu café and yoga studio who offer a great array of vegetarian and vegan options for breakfast and lunch with menu options including western style muesli and fresh fruit  from 7.30 am.

Coconut Surf In is also on your street and they have a fantastic rooftop venue with full view of the park and beach that makes up the Coconut Beach and Coconut Point seascape.
