The Weligama Coast offers a surfing experience unlike many in the world.

With breaks ideal for learners with long boards on consistent swell that rolls in morning and afternoon to intermediate peaks, lefts and rights that allow for surfers to develop skills that will take them from average to good in no time. Within walking distance or minutes by Tuk-Tuk or scooter find challenging rock and coral platforms for board riders to body boarders that make for memorable surfing experiences.

Your host Freddy has the knowledge and equipment to get you to where you want to go regardless of age and ability.

Freddy’s Surf Shop, named Coco Surf has over 100 board surf boards on site with all the accessories including leg ropes, wax and clothing. Rent a board for an hour, day, week or month and travel with it to all the internationally known surf breaks in the area.

Long Boards, short boards, foams and body boarders are catered for as well with boards and fins.

Do you or your friends need lessons?

Freddy offers group and individual lessons with him and a list of approved male or female instructors for beginners and those just wanting to know about the local breaks and get some tips on how to improve aspects of there surfing skill set.

For those with a some experience, Plantaions is just a small walk from Freddy’s surf shop where you can rent your board for the lesson. For those brushing up, Coconut Beach is directly in front of the shop and Freddys and his team can show you the safe jump off reef platforms to get you started with the easiest paddle out.

For those absolute beginners Freddy has the answer with Jungle Beach a short Tuk-Tuk from Coconut Beach and Point where a gentle bay paddle greets you as you learn the very fundamentals of paddle and board confidence and control. Sit away from the left and right breaks and engage as your confidence builds for a challenging but safe and fulfilling day in the ocean perfect for first timers of any age.

Once established in the area it is just a short Tuk-Tuk or scooter ride to world famous lazy left, lazy right, rams and Devils Rock or stay and improve at Plantations and Coconut Beach and Point. The surf season is generally considered to commence in August and finish in March. For many the end of the season finishes just around the time of the celebration of the Sri Lankan Sinhalese New Year which is mid April, where the who Village or Gurubebila gets into the festivities with music and fire works.

For those looking to surf all year round the Arugam Bay surf season in the south of Sri Lanka commences around Mid March and is approximately 5 hours drive from the Weligama Coast and Coconut Beach and Point.
